The
Switzer Family consists of three brothers, our wives, my
nephew and niece, and my 83-year-old mother. As I said before
my name is Cord (my real name is Spencer Alwin Switzer, Junior
too long, too hard, needed shortcut) and my wife is Sandy.
I am the G-1 the Go-for Number 1 I
go for this, I go for that. Sandy is the General Manager, we
all refer to her as Miss Purse Strings. If one of
us spends 39 cents for a box of paper clips and want our money
back, we better have a receipt. |
Brother
#2 Jene (really, it is Harold Eugene) is our Winemaster.
He says a Winemaster has to spend time in the vineyard doing
the dirty work as well as the winery. I can not think of anything
he dislikes more than being out in the vineyard hot,
dirty, cold, wet not his thing but he does not have
a choice if needed. We try to keep him out of the vineyard
except for at most a few days during harvest. His wife is
Sandra, we can not afford to bring her in-house yet but hope
to soon. Their daughter is Chardonnay, really, Alexandra-Marie
Chardonnay. At age 8, she has probably put more bottles of
wine on the shelves in the Tasting Room and tasted more wines
than most adults ever touch in their life.

Brother
#3 Bert (Bert Louis and you will have to get him
to tell about his name) is the Vineyard Director. He is the
antithesis of Jene give him a tractor, some dirt, some
vines and let him do his thing. Minerva is his wife and the
Tasting Room Manager. We are fortunate that she also speaks
Spanish sometimes I understand her Spanish better than
I can her English and I do not speak Spanish. Mark age
13 is their son and has been around the wine business
since he was born. He has done and is doing all stages of the
process this summer he is in charge of the 6400 vines
we potted to grow out for planting this fall. |
Oma
Oma (grandmother in German) is the 83-year-old mother
of the three brothers and our antique labeling machine.
We do not have big fancy equipment labeling the bottles
one by one is her job. Getting her to start at 10 o'clock when
we open does not happen - she sets her own hours. |
| Friends
I can not begin to tell you how important these people
are and have been. If it were not for friends we
would not be in business today. Friends have given
us grapes, lent us equipment, helped pick grapes, bottle, label
and have helped in more ways then I can list. To them we are
forever grateful. |
